Manchester Jewellery Designer Cailline Lea Published on Monday, 06 February 2012 16:46
One of the latest additions to fashionrider.com is the fabulous Cailline Lea. Cailline is an applied artist and recent graduate of the Manchester School of Art. She has a keen interest in technology, fashion and body adornment and has used a variety of manufacturing methods and experimentation to create her, quite frankly, amazing, jewellery collections.

(The Folded Collection)
At present she has two collections, which are complete opposites in design: Folded and Silk.
The Folded Collection features chunky geometric designs in Coral inspired by Japanese Origami construction and Katagami stencils, used to decorate silk kimonos.

The Silk Collection, it has to be said, is quite unusual in both construction and design. The pieces are made from laser cut acrylic and hand pierced aluminium hand moulded into sphere-like structures. Cailline has said she wanted the collection to look “delicate but hard”, and they certainly look like as if they have been made from ice.

These exquisite pieces have come from the mind of a highly talented and skilled individual. Cailline credits a night course she attended in Manchester for making her choose jewellery over other art and design forms, she says she “loved getting [her] hands dirty and experimenting with the jewellery”.

As for new collections; Cailline loves vintage style and has been collecting glass buttons to create a wearable collection perhaps not as extreme as the collections created for university, and she is also looking out for a way to create a lace texture in a metal material.
So, watch this space and keep an eye on Cailline’s profile here: Cailline Lea, we at Fashion Rider love her designs and can’t wait to see more.
