Becky Dodman's collection of women’s knitwear Published on Wednesday, 07 March 2012 16:59
Who would have thought that a collection of women’s knitwear, created by using such traditional techniques, could be brought to us in such an untraditional and contemporary manner?
The creator of the collection, titled PSYCHEDELIC SERAPHINE, is Becky Dodman, a Plymouth College of Art graduate with an eye for alternative fashion. It is inspired by the use of psychedelic patterning and colour of the 1970s, and uses vivid bright wools to create this explosion of colour and fashion forward style.
What’s interesting about this work is that Becky is engaged with every stage of production, right down to obtaining the raw material, through to processing and dying the wool and finally designing and knitting the pieces. Often, she even knows the sheep in which her wool has come from! Her raw passion for good quality knitwear is evident in her work.
Becky’s collection holds an array of unique designs, differing from anything you’d find in a commercial environment. Yet she skilfully manages to cater for a range of styles and tastes while maintaining her trademark kooky twist.
Whether looking for traditional knitwear with a contemporary vibrant twist such as this leggings and jumper combination, or an alternative sexy look such as these patterned woolen knickers and cropped vest, you’re sure to find something you’ll fall in love with.
In the future, Becky has told Fashion Rider that she would love to take her designs to a more commercial level. I’m very excited to see the introduction of the rare and wonderful to the commercial
world. It’s a move which would be sure to give a much welcomed injection of colour and liveliness to Britain’s fashion industry.
